Yoto Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Our commitment to families
At Yoto, we value and celebrate diversity. As we grow, we want to help families create inclusive environments through the audio content we offer.
We work with partners to license more kid’s audio created by people from diverse backgrounds. We also look to feature stories from a wide range of characters, cultures and perspectives.
Thanks to your feedback, we are proud to offer:
- Content from creators from underrepresented groups
- Stories that explore diversity and inclusion
- Different representations of many types of families.
We believe diversity should be reflected in voices too. If we can’t find inclusive audio through our partners, we strive to develop it ourselves as part of our Yoto Originals range.
You can see some of our diverse recommendations to help you build an inclusive card collection for your child.
If you have suggestions for kid’s audiobooks, music, or podcasts which you’d like to hear on Yoto, please tell us!. We always welcome ideas from our community.
Our workforce
We also focus on building a team that reflects the cultural, social, and ethnic diversity of our customers. We recognise a diverse and inclusive workplace encourages innovation, improves decision-making, and helps us provide richer content.
One of our company values is ‘Embrace Difference’. This means:
- We are at our best when we can be our true selves
- We trust, respect, and support each other so that life and work can work together
- We welcome new voices, beliefs and perspectives
We have a passionate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) group, who work to make Yoto a positive, respectful place where everyone is heard.
We mark international awareness days with events and ‘meet the team’ interviews, sharing experiences on topics like neurodiversity or women in technology.
Flexible working
Our choice-based approach lets each person decide where and when they work. This flexibility means we can easily meet any individual needs.
We track the diversity of our team and set clear goals. For example, on International Women's Day, we set an ambitious target to ensure that at least 40% of new hires in our technology team are women, acknowledging their underrepresentation in this space.
To reach this goal, we:
- Use interview panels with a mix of people, and include at least two interviewers. This helps candidates feel at ease and reduces bias.
- Collect and act on candidate feedback.
- Focus on experience, passion and attitude over formal education (unless essential for the role)
- Review job descriptions to remove gender-coded language
- Commit to pay all our UK employees at least the London Real Living Wage, no matter where they live. Outside the UK, we follow the same principle by making sure every employee earns above the highest legal minimum wage in their country or region. We also check that their pay matches fair market rates for their role and location.
We will keep improving our recruitment process to attract people from all backgrounds and communities.
We expect everyone at Yoto to help create an equal and respective environment. We have zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment and promote a safe, ‘speak up’ culture where everyone’s voice matters.

Mental health
We aim to create a workplace that is free from stigma, where mental health can be discussed openly.
We provide:
- Regional employee assistance programmes
- Trained mental health first aiders
- Ongoing learning opportunities on mental health
- A Mental Health at Work Policy so everyone knows their responsibilities in this space and the support available
Our flexible hours and remote working options help employees prioritise their mental and physical health, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Looking ahead
Building diversity and inclusion takes time. We will keep listening, learning, and working to create a culture we can all be proud of.
